About Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative
power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice
of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine)
and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects
the preservation and restoration of health.
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system, your brain
and spinal cord, controls the function of every cell, tissue, and organ of your
body. Your brain is a computer that monitors, regulates and even coordinates function
between different parts of your body. Your spinal cord is a superhighway of nerves
that allows the flow of information between your brain and different parts of your
body. The Vertebral column (your spine) houses the spinal cord and between the individual
bones (vertebrae) are openings through which the spinal nerves (with arteries and
veins) exit carrying information to and from all the areas of your body. Mis-alignment
of the vertebrae close or constrict these openings causing a disruption in the flow
of information between the brain and the body. Chiropractors call this a Subluxation.
Our Doctor is an expert in the art of re-aligning the spine, a practice called ‘adjusting’.
An adjustment can be preformed in hundreds of different ways and by many different
techniques, all providing controlled pressure in a specific direction to return
the spinal segments to their normal position and restore their range of motion.
Chiropractors believe that in addition to restoring range of motion, increasing
flexibility, and decreasing unequal pressure on the spine which may cause degeneration
(arthritis), chiropractic provides much more to the body. Removing the pressure
on the nerves allows the body to function the way it was intended to function, making
your body healthier as it is able to “heal” itself.
The spine is one the most vital parts of the human body as it is the gateway for
communication between you nervous system and organs of your body.
